Chris Meredith
mixed media arts and explorations

About the Artist
My artistic practice is a visceral dialogue between memory and medium. My encaustic works explore the physicality of heat and light interwined with delicate arabesques, deep layers of transparent and translucent paints and waxes, while my watercolor and mixed-media pieces capture the ephemeral nature of childhood recollections and fluid dream states. Every piece is an archival record of a life lived in the margins of the ordinary.
“Art is the only way to keep the past alive in the present.”

Painting Process
Foundation & Texture
The journey begins with the preparation of the surface, applying initial layers of gesso and raw pigment to build a tactile foundation that speaks to the physicality of memory.
Encaustic Layering
Molten beeswax and resin are fused into the substrate using high heat, creating translucent depths that archive each gesture and moment of the creative act.
Fluid Explorations
Incorporating watercolors involves a dialogue with humidity and absorption, allowing the medium to flow naturally into child-like recollections and ephemeral shapes.
Refinement & Fusion
The final stage focuses on the technical mastery of heat and pigment, ensuring each layer is perfectly archival while polishing the surface to reveal the narrative within.
